2. Training Group Structure |

It is expected that athletes will participate for a full season (September through July). Conditioning, stroke mastery and competitive performance require time and effort. All swimmers who are willing to make the effort will improve and find success in the swimming program. Placement in the program is based on both performance and evidence of potential as evaluated by the coaching staff. Training Group | Target Age Range | Emphasis: | | Steelheads | varies | Pre-competetive group who's goals are to focus on stroke technique. Athletes must be able to swim one length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. Classes meet September through May, twice a week for 30 minutes for 6 week sessions. | Blue and White
| 6-11 | Developmental: Learn and develop advanced competitive swimming fundamentals | | Sockeyes | 9-12
| Developmental: Develop advanced competitive swimming techniques in all strokes, turns, starts, finishes, etc; Improve meet skills and race efficiency in all events. Improve and refine technique and fundamentals with an introduction to specific physical training techniques and race strategies. | Junior Prep and Regionals | 14 & under
| Refinement: This competitive training group is designed to allow athletes an opportunity to mature physically and emotionally within their peer and/or ability groups while being challenged to compete at the next level of competition. Emphasis will be on improving an defining technique and fundamentals with an introduction to specific physical training techniques and race strategies. | | Juniors | 11 - 14
| Refinement: Systematic training of physiological parameters are emphasized with stroke technique. | Race Club
| High School
| Specialized: Training group for HS-aged athletes to help develop fitness and racing skills while providing flexibility of a seasonal (8 week session) approach. This group focuses on the unique needs of high school/summer league swimming as well as provides opportunities for athletes of other disciplines to pursue swimming without the annual commitment. | | Jr Nationals | 11 and over | Advanced: Preparation for the National Training Group and Senior Sectional/ Junior National competition. | | Nationals | 14 and over | Advanced: This intense group will focus on the elite athlete striving for National and International level competition.
