National Training Team

The National Training Team represents the top athletes in the IST program. These athletes accept a “No Limit” – “Whatever is Takes” philosophy. Athletes are expected to have the highest technical skills and training ethic and are determined to achieving their maximum potential with their goals set on National, International, and Olympic titles.
For optimal chance of success, time management is required and emphasized. This is based on the understanding of prioritizing and successfully balancing ones daily schedule including academics, swimming, family, and social life. An understanding of systematic training, physiology, mental toughness, nutrition and goal setting is required. By the time an athlete reaches this level, they should have solid swimming technique and should have developed a basic understanding of psychological skills and attributes required for peak performance. Training is centered on highly specialized and specific physical parameters. Also greatly emphasized will be strength and/or dryland training, mental training, academics, spirit, unity, race preparation, and maintaining efficient technique. All participants will be required to use direct communication and effectively apply conflict resolution skills with teammates and coaches.
Target age: 13 and older
Entry Requirements:
- Head coach invitation
- Be recommended by current coach
- Achieve National Training Team time standards
- Pass the IST Nationals evaluation
- Demonstrated 99% attendance record
- Have parental support and understanding of IST’s teaching curriculum and methodology
- Maintain a 3.5 GPA average
